Professor at the Metallurgy Laboratory, School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of National Technical University of Athens on the "Treatment of solid waste and metallurgical raw materials". He graduated from the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering in 1983, and received his PhD Thesis in 1988 (title "Extraction of iron for iron-nickel-cobalt solutions by solvent extraction”). He became a faculty member in 2003 and he was Adjunct Assoc. Professor in the Mineral Resources Engineering Department of the Technical University of Crete between 1995-2000. In the period 2015-2018 he was the CEO of LARCO SA.

From 1984 until today, he has been actively involved in research projects having participated in 37 competitive projects funded by European and national funds. His scientific areas include the development of pyro- and hydrometallurgical methods for the treatment of raw materials, industrial waste and end-of-life products, the development of computational methods in metallurgy and materials technology, the characterization of solid waste and contaminated soils, the risk analysis and the management/disposal of solid industrial waste

He teaches 8 undergraduate courses in metallurgy and environmental protection. He has acted as consultant or expert to public and private bodies and served as a national representative in several European Committees to prepare legislation documents or certain guidelines. To date, he has published 73 articles in international scientific journals and 83 articles in international conference proceedings, while his published work has at least 1700 citations. He has also authored 6 chapters in 4 foreign language books
