Introductory concepts and definitions in Ore Deposit Geology including: morphology and nature of ore bodies, ore structures and textures, hydrothermal alteration, types of alterations and zoning, geotectonic environments and genesis – formation of ore deposits. Basic concepts regarding Metallogenic provinces are examined, as well as the major Ore deposit types based on the contemporary ore deposit classification scheme according to USGS, focused on Greek Mineral Resources. Discrimination between magmatic – hydrothermal deposits, deposits related to surface and sedimentary processes, metamorphic and metamorphosed deposits. Fossil fuels, including coal, oil and natural gas: genesis, conditions of fossil fuel formation, formation environments, and the contemporary status of Greece relative to fossil fuels.
